The crystallization process in poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) films was followed using both scanning probe microscopy, and FTIR spectroscopy in reflection mode. Nano-meter scale grains of the average size of 10 to 40 nm were observed after annealing of PET films in situ under scanning probe microscope at elevated temperatures above the Tg and identified to be the crystalline phase on the basis of both SPM and IR spectroscopy.
